What do you do?

As a dual-certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), I offer personalized support, guidance, and resources for parents, families, and communities navigating the challenges of medical conditions, trauma, grief, and everyday life stress. I combine my expertise in child development, therapy, and medical care to provide comprehensive services that help children and families cope with stressful experiences, improve communication, and turn difficult moments into better memories.

My story

I was 16 years old when I lost a close friend to leukemia. It was during this time that I began volunteering at the hospital where he was treated and discovered the Child Life profession, which quickly became my dream.

I earned two Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of Minnesota in Child Psychology and Spanish Studies before starting my first position as a hospital-based child life specialist. I was on the professional staff at Advocate Children’s Hospital for nearly a decade, where I supported pediatric patients, their siblings, and children of adult patients across various settings. During this time, I met parents in some of their most critical moments, helping them create meaningful memories for their families.

As a child life specialist in private practice, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology to better serve the mental health needs of my patients. This dual certification and education allowed me to address the anxiety and adjustment issues that often arise in the context of medical experiences and grief.

With extensive experience in end-of-life care, including leading program implementation for an entire healthcare system, I have supported grieving children through pediatric, perinatal, and adult losses. I’m also uniquely trained to coach caregivers on language and techniques for supporting their children through medical illnesses, family life transitions, and traumatic loss.

My dual degrees and specialized experience with illness, hospitalization, and grief have equipped me to incorporate evidence-based strategies (CBT, DBT), play-based interventions, and a strength-based approach into clinically appropriate interventions that reduce fear, distress, and anxiety. I help families develop more effective coping and communication skills, nurture their relationships, and build a stronger sense of self.

I am an active volunteer with local and national organizations, including Child Life Disaster Relief and Aftermath. In addition to my private practice clinical work, I am also the author and creator of The Method Workbooks. I serve as the Chief Clinical Officer of Pickles Group, a nationwide nonprofit that provides free peer-to-peer support and resources to kids and teens impacted by a parent’s cancer. Additionally, I am a Registered Wonders & Worries Provider and a member of the Academy of Food Allergy Counseling.

Though my work is a true passion, I also prioritize time with my husband and two young children, which allows me to maintain a balanced perspective as I help families navigate the complexities of illness, grief, and emotional challenges.
